MOSCOW (MRC)–European polyvinyl chloride (PVC) producers rolled over their January export prices for February shipments, and, in some cases, there were decreases, according to an MRC Price report.
European PVC prices stand for February at €1,640-1,710/tonne FCA (free carrier) for CIS markets.
US’ PVC export prices slumped again in February, with offers down to $1,600/tonne CFR (cost & freight) and lower.
The European ethylene February contract price rose by €67,5/tonne from January; theoretically, that price increase would allow for an increase of €34/tonne in the net cost of PVC production.
But with global supply rising and prices falling in a number of the key export destinations, European suppliers are not considering price hikes.
Since last November, the global availability of PVC has been gradually increasing.
Suppliers of North American PVC began to enter the European and CIS markets more actively, whereas prices constantly decreased.
Difficulties with maritime logistics remained, which negatively affected delivery times.
For several export destinations, it is increasingly difficult for European producers to maintain high prices, despite the growth in feedstock prices and electricity in the region.
