Help Us Defeat ALS

There are many, many ALS foundations. These are some of our favorites. You can click on the links to donate directly to them.

This is the biggie.  It supports clinics,( including our own Dr. Bedlack’s at Duke University Medical Center), research,  gives grants to those in need of financial help to meet the devestating costs of ALS, and offers some help in accessing/lending equipment for those in need.  Our local chapter also goes to Washington DC every May to meet with members of congress.

From the website: “The ALS Association is the only national not-for-profit health organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS. We cover all the bases — research, patient and community services, public education and advocacy — in providing help and hope to those facing the disease.”

ANSWER ALS was founded by New Orleans Saint, Steve Gleason after he was diagnosed. His motto is “NO WHITE FLAGS.” They work to get technology to help people who don’t have access to adequate insurance and also to create the largest database in the world of those with ALS.

From the website; “Answer ALS is an initiative developed after a year of outreach, partnering, and research across the globe – conceived at an ALS Summit conducted on June 2013 in New Orleans, LA. Answer ALS is under the stewardship of the Gleason Initiative Foundation and begins TODAY – 26 June 2014.”

TEAM DREA was founded by our friend, Andrea Lytle Peet.  She has done a remarkable job of raising money for ALS after she was diagnosed in 2013. She too has beaten the odds and lived longer than most. I admire her greatly.  Her motto is “Go On, Be Brave Make A World Without ALS”.

From the website: “The Team Drea Foundation supports bold, innovative research to find a cure or effective treatment for ALS.We see raising awareness about this devastating disease as an opportunity to inspire people to live bravely, love  joyfully, and appreciate the gift of life.”

ALS-TDI is a favorite of our friend, Andrea Lytle Peet.

From their website: “The ALS Therapy Development Institute and its scientists actively discover and develop treatments for ALS. We are the world’s first and largest nonprofit biotech focused 100 percent on ALS research. Led by people with ALS and drug development experts, we understand the urgent need to slow and stop this disease.”
