FIRE, MUD, PAIN, BRAVERY
The first time he fell and needed help up.
FIRE…
Being trapped in a wheelchair for three years.
FIRE…
Not being able to go to his favorite place, the ocean.
FIRE…
Not getting to tell his loved ones he loved them with his own voice.
FIRE…
Trying to walk ten feet without falling.
MUD…
Watching his grandchildren play fight knowing he can’t join in.
MUD…
Struggling to do the everyday activities everyone else does.
MUD…
Trying to stay sane while his body is slowly eaten away.
MUD…
The first time he choked on his food.
PAIN…
Every second of physical therapy.
PAIN…
Having a completely different body temperature than everyone.
PAIN…
The constant ache of his muscles deteriorating.
PAIN…
The first time he got the bad news.
BRAVERY…
Being positive and a little crazy even though he was hurting
BRAVERY…
Accepting the fact that there is no cure.
BRAVERY…
Telling his family he loved them one more time.
BRAVERY…
The poet and his pappy.
❤️ sad…. yet happy this sweet child saw this greatness in his Grandfather❤️
Thank you Susan. All the grands thought he was a great guy. I think partly because, like many truly mature people, Pat never lost his aptitude for fun.
What a wonderful tribute to a wonderful man. Beautiful poem❤️😢
Thank you. I think he did a good job of capturing the essence/path/struggle of ALS.It made me remember certain aspects I’d forgotten, but which now will go in my book.
Beautifully written😥😥. A very mature insight. ❤️
Thank you. Sometimes, in my down times, I forget that they mourn too.
Very powerful.
I agree. Thank you.
